Crucial time for Bailey Hill, Mold

Request for individuals and organisations to help with fund raising

Whopping £62,460 needed by January

Ambitious plans to conserve and enhance Bailey Hill, Mold, to attract more people of all ages to visit the park and celebrate its historic heritage and ecological importance are now at a tipping point. In order to carry out the improvements shown in the Bailey Hill Masterplan, a further £62,460 must be raised by January to help match-fund a £963,690 request to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a stage 2 delivery award.

The plans, which are on display upstairs in Mold Town Hall, include a new ramped entrance up to the existing gates and beyond, so that the park becomes accessible to all for the first time. With a gentle gradient path to the Cenotaph and custodian’s cottage. Making the downstairs of the cottage a multi-use community space, with a new disabled toilet, kitchen, storage room and office; and a two bedroomed flat upstairs. Improving all the paths especially up to the Outer and Inner Baileys so that these beautiful sites can be visited and used more easily by people. A performance area on the elevated section of the Inner Bailey which will incorporate all-year round seating. New interpretation for the whole site to tell the story of Bailey Hill’s turbulent past.

Mold Town Council and the Friends of Bailey Hill have already raised thousands of pounds and are holding further fund raising activities before January, which they hope the public will support. Both Flintshire County Council and Mold Town Council have also applied for other grants. But, as Andrea Mearns from the Friends of Bailey Hill explained, “With the deadline drawing close for the application to HLF in February we are now appealing directly to the public for their help in raising the short fall.

“People have said that they value Bailey Hill and that it was once a very special place for them. Now is our chance to make it special again – somewhere people want to visit and enjoy. We are appealing to the public and organisations to help fund the improvement work by making a donation to the Bailey Hill HLF project.

Appeal for donations to Bailey Hill

“There are many calls on people’s generosity, especially at this time of year. People in Mold are known to be generous and imaginative, often getting together with their friends and neighbours to raise funds in a fun way.

“This is our chance to make a real difference. Bailey Hill is a public park so the improvements will benefit all local residents and visitors alike. As a scheduled ancient monument and the ‘birthplace of Mold’ it is the most important open space in the town and many people have said how that heritage needs conserving for the future.”

Is there a ‘justgiving’ page? You can’t collect income tax (so it may be less attractive after charitable status) but it makes contributions easier from websites/apps/social medial and the like?
