Cittaslow Mold’s ‘Environmental Policy’ sub group is interested in Cittaslow membership criteria ‘A’ around environmental matters. One ambitious long-term project is Mold Going Carbon Neutral. Residents are being asked to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide they release into the atmosphere, as 28% of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions come from energy used to heat, light and power homes.

In partnership with North Wales Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, Cittaslow Mold is promoting a range of measures to reduce energy consumption. To make changes sustainable the local community needs to be fully involved.

More trees for Mold?

Bailey Hill, Mold
Internationally the Lions Club wants to plant a million trees worldwide in twelve months. The president of the local club – Buckley and Mold – has suggested working with groups in Mold, including Cittaslow Mold and Mold Town Council, to plant new trees in and around the Town in the year of the Queen’s Jubilee, 2012.

Climate Change Champions


Flintshire teen named as Wales’ new Climate Change Champion. A teenage girl from Flintshire has been announced as one of five Climate Change Champions for 2011, with the special brief of communicating 11 actions that people across Wales can take to reduce their carbon footprint.

Reduce, re-use and recycle

Flintshire residents produced more household waste in 2010 compared with 2009. The figure leapt to 85kg per person, compared with 67kg the previous year – which was the largest rise for the whole of Wales.
